Appointments Committee to begin vetting of ministerial nominees on February 10

Parliament will start vetting the President’s nominees for ministerial positions on February 10, 2021 minority leader and ranking member of the Appointments Committee has disclosed.

He indicated that priority will be given to some nominees including the nominees for the Health ministry and National Security because of the upsurge in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hon. Haruna made the disclosure on behalf of ths Chairman of the Committee when commenting on the Business Statement for next week read by the Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Tbe Appointments Committee, he said, is therefore requesting memoranda from the public in respect of all the appointees to the various ministerial positions.

“We are expected to commence vetting and scrutiny of the President’s ministers-designate on the 10th of February.”

“Mr. Speaker, priority will be given to some ministers particularly the Health Minister-designate because of the Covid-19 situation in the country.”

“Probably he will be the first nominee to be considered by the Committee followed by the ministers for National Security and Finance, and then the others,” he stated.
