A Presidential Staffer, Mr Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said that the Akufo-Addo administration has projects and programmes to show for the borrowings that it has engaged in over the period.

Unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration that could not point to a single project carried out from the loans during their tenure, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a number of them to show for, he said.

Speaking on the Big Issue with Roland Walker on TV3 Monday, the Local Governance expert referred to projects in the road sector to support his point.

“Unprecedented, no government within a period of four or five years have been able to tar the number of kilometers of roads that we have tarred, over 3600killiometrs of roads that we have tarred,” he said.

He further indicated that the government has the One District One Factory initiatives which he said has produced 127 of them currently operating.

“NDC came, they picked our debt from 9billion to almost about 122billion. We, admittedly, have moved it from 122billion to 400billion or whatever, but we have things to show for.

“We have private sector that we have supported to generate at least 127 factories that are operational and others that are being built, we have people who have been supported in private sector to ensure that their businesses thrive, we are spending about a billion Dollars every year to keep energy on.”

The main opposition had accused the NPP government to engaging in wasteful expenditure.

They accused the government to s6qnaderiung the loans they got.

It is recalled that ahead of the 202 general elections, the Presidential Candidate of the NDC John Dramani Mahama while addressing the chiefs and people of Sampa in the Jaman North constituency as part of his tour of the Bono Region, said “When I was in government, we borrowed ¢54billion and Ghanaians could visibly see what we used the money for, in the area of roads, water, electricity, airport, harbour, and schools, among others.”

“But after staying in office for four years, do you know the money they have borrowed?” he queried.

He added: “The NPP government has borrowed ¢140 billion and the sad aspect is that the government has failed to explain to Ghanaians what they have used the money for in the area of roads, water, and schools, among others.

“So what are they using the money for?”
