Matungu MP Justus Murunga has been arrested in connection with the recent killings in the constituency that has allegedly left 12 people dead.

The MP was arrested on Saturday morning.

Murunga is the fourth politician to be arrested within 24 hours in the connection to the horrifying killings reported in the past weeks in Kakamega County.

The MP presented himself to the Kakamega Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) before he was arrested.

Western Regional Commissioner Rashid Yakub confirmed the MP’s arrest.

“The MP is being grilled by a team of detectives over the recent killings by criminal gangs in his constituency,” Yakub told the Nation.

On Friday detectives arrested Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala and former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa over the Matungu killings.

Echesa was nabbed immediately he left a meeting attended by Deputy President William Ruto in Ikolomani, Kakamega County while Malala, on the other hand, was arrested by CID detectives in Kisumu.

Echesa is currently being held at Kakamega Central Police Station while Malala is being held at Kisumu Central Police Station.

On Thursday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai toured troubled Matungu constituency.

The two vowed to hunt down politicians allegedly fueling the killings that have left 12 people dead and over 30 others nursing serious injuries.

The Interior CS and the IG called on residents to give information to police that will lead to the arrest of people behind the killings.
