In a press statement released on Sunday, CODEC is congratulating Parliament and the committee for investigating into the corruption allegations and at the same time commended Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Okudzeto Ablakwa and Alhassan Suhuyini, sitting members of Parliament for mastering the courage, ignoring the vilification and insults to bring this alleged act to the notice of Parliament and the public.

It revealed that, the three have exhibited a level of bravery and patriotism which should be celebrated irrespective of the verdict of the committee set up to investigate the matter but asking the MP for Bawku Central to appeal against the verdict because there are certain issues in the verdict they see it improper.

CODEC also said the most appropriate institution to have investigated this allegation bordering on corruption would have been the Commission for Human Rights and Administration Justice (CHRAJ).

“It is fortified in it believe by the obvious limited resources and self-imposed restrictions of Parliament, manifesting in a clear discomfort in investigating its own members, putting them between a rock and a hard place in what seemed to be a bonding of the ‘old guards’ in Parliament against the newer Parliamentarians”, it said.

The statement continued, “it was unfair on the part of the committee which was set up by the Speaker of Parliament not to have included in its ruling evidence provided on the CCTV footage, with the excuse that it would expose the inner workings of Parliament and pose a security risk.”

Attached is the full statement by CODEC.
