President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned criticisms of the government’s strategy on fighting the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to him, political actors will want to create the impression the current numbers demonstrate a failure on the part of the government.

“Do not begrudge them. They need to make such comments for their political survival,” he said.

Government, he said, is emboldened in the knowledge that the 4,700 confirmed cases have been identified, taken out of the population, isolated, and are being treated.

Delivering his 9th update on the government’s fight against the disease on Sunday 10th May 2020, the President noted that the implementation strategy of aggressively tracking, testing, and treating is the surest way of rooting out the virus.

“This early identification of persons with the virus ensures that they do not spread the virus to others; we are provided with the opportunity to treat them, and it helps us to understand better the dynamics of the virus,” he stated.

The country so far has recorded total confirmed coronavirus cases of 4,700, 494 recoveries, and 22 deaths.
