Chairman of United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr. Kenneth Nana Kwame Asamoah, has made a passionate appeal to politicians and Ghanaians in general to present a common front in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

He stated the need for Ghanaians from the different shades of political parties to be united in the fight against the virus to ensure Ghana rid itself of the virus quickly.

The current situation in the country, he argued, is not about politics because the dangers that COVID-19 poses transcend individuals and political parties.

He made the call at the residence of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, on Friday 1st May 2020 when in the company of some party executives he presented some food items to the Imam.

“This is not a time for politics but a time for all Ghanaians to come together to combat this common enemy, the coronavirus.”

“The disease does not target people from one political party or the other. It strikes at everyone. This makes it important to briefly forget our political colours and unite as Ghanaians to defeat it,” he said.

Nana Kwame Asamoah appealed to the National Chief Imam to pray for the health of the country especially in this holy month of Ramadan when Muslims the world over are observing the Ramadan.

According to him, he was inspired to present the items including soft drinks, loaves of bread, cartons of milk and milo, bags of rice, boxes of bottled water among others as his contribution to the Muslim community.

“We know we are in the holy month of Ramadan that is why we are here to present these food items to the Chief of Imam and the Muslim community.”

“I appeal to our father and grandfather, the Chief Imam and our Muslim brothers and sisters to remember us and Ghana in their prayers and when you down on your knees in supplication, pray to Allah to heal our country of this COVID-19,” he stated.

The UPP Chairman pleaded with the Chief Imam to admonish politicians against towing partisan lines in these trying times but to unite and support the President his efforts.

Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu noted that the coronavirus is a test from Allah and therefore the need to be patient and continue to offer supplication for recovery.

He observed that the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) in one of his quotes indicated Muslim should pray to Allah and believe firmly their prayers will be accepted.

“We are therefore supplicating to Almighty Allah to save us from this calamity,” he stated.

He extended gratitude to Nana Kwame Asamoah for the kind gesture and taking the trouble to visit his residence to donate the items and prayed for Allah’s blessings and mercies on him.
