Dr. Okpoti Koney was an intellectual warrior for NDC – Haruna Iddrisu eulogises

The Minority Leader, and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has described the former chief executive officer of Ghana Trade Fair Company limited Dr. Ebenezer Erasmus Okpoti Koney as an intellectual warrior of the National Democratic Congress.

The minority leader said Dr.Koney argued and defended the NDC, its values, and growth, and immensely contributed to the democratic depensation of the country.

Hon Haruna made these remarks in his tribute to the Late party stalwart who passed to eternity in June 2022.

The funeral held in La, Accra on Saturday, October 1, 2022, had in attendance mourners & sympathisers across the world.

The Tamale south Legislature said the man Ebby Koney was very humane, caring and contributed significantly to his political career.

“When I declared my intention to run for tbe Gukpegu/Sabonjida Constituency 1998/99, I was struggling, I didnt know how to produce my first T-shirt but thanks to Ebby and the likes, I have since been a successful politician,” he said.

In 2000, Dr. Ebby Koney was elected as the Chairman of the North America Coordinating Council(NACC) of the NDC. In the Mid 2000s Dr. Ebby Koney led the North American branch of the NDC to organize fundraising campaigns in Canada and the USA for then Candiadate, the late Prof Evans Atta Mills.

When NDC lost power in the 2000 election, as the Chair of NACC Dr. Ebby doubled his efforts on various social media platforms and Ghanaweb to advertise the NDC.

Whilst Eulogising, the minority leader noted Dr. Koney as a legal luminary practising in the US had an impeccable record in immigration and its related issues.

Hon. Haruna stressed that the passion, vision, commitment and drive of Dr. Koney towards the redevelopment of the Ghana Trade Fair Company were commendable.

“If the Ghana Trade Fair redevelopment initiative didn’t happen under his watch, it did not redevelop because he didn’t provide leadership and managerial expertise but rather he was stopped because of political decisions the government took. I am sure tomorrow we would build it to his memory” he added

The minority leader, together with Hon Alex Segbefia, Prof kwesi Ahoi on behalf of the party and His Excellency John Mahama made a cash donation of 10,000gh to the family.
