Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has accused personnel at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) of issuing fake COVID-19 negative certificates.

Speaking on his Accra-based radio station on Tuesday evening on the program ‘Boiling Point’, Mr. Agyapong alleged that some personnel at Ghana’s international airport are conniving with some travellers and issuing them with fake Negative COVID-19 Certificates without being tested.
According to him, this is happening to travellers especially coming from the United Kingdom (UK), and that his friends have confirmed it.
Mr. Agyapong stated that though the government is making all efforts to ensure the spread of the deadly disease is brought under control, some nation wreckers at the Airport are thinking of their pockets and putting the country at risk.
“I can tell you of three friends who just came into the country and were given fake negative certificates at the Airport without being tested,” he said.
“There were those who were leaving the country and issued with certificates without the test, but when they got to their destination, they tested positive. They pay bribes and are issued with fake negative certificates,” he revealed.
“Why are we doing this to ourselves? Some Ghanaians always think about their selfish interest first without looking at the country as a whole,” he stated.
The out-spoken Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) called on all Ghanaians to help the government in the fight against the Coronavirus because it does not rest on the state alone.
He told host of the program, ‘Wofa’ Kwabena Kwakyie that he would advise President Akufo-Addo to close down schools, restaurants and drinking bars again because some Ghanaians are defying the COVID protocols.
“The President has directed that restaurants should not serve people in-house but rather serve takeaways but Kwabena, it’s serious. Ghanaians or these restaurants are not going by the directives. I drove past Kaneshie last night and I was shocked, people holding weddings as if there are no directives.”
“You see educated people also doing contrary to what the President has said. Some will not even wear the face mask. I plead with the Police to start canning people in town.”
“The President should also close down all restaurants,” he added.
