President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that Ghana is working towards the development and manufacturing of her own COVID-19 vaccine.

According to him, the Committee is studying the COVID-19 variants in the country for appropriate action.
President Akufo-Addo disclosed this in his 24th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana last Sunday.
He indicated that Ghana is the first country in the world to secure vaccines from the COVAX Facility as a result of sheer determination and hard work by the government.
The President and the first lady, along with the Vice President and Second lady subsequently took the first doses of the vaccination publicly on Monday to ally public fear about their safety.
He indicated that the rollout of the vaccination exercise will begin today Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

He assured the safety of the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and stated that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana’s domestic regulatory Agency and one of the most reputable in Africa and in the world, had certified the safe use of the vaccine.
He assured that the vaccine would not alter DNAs, embed tracking devices in people’s body, and not cause infertility in women or in men as being speculated.
President Akufo-Addo, however, warned the vaccination does not mean Ghanaians should discard the safety protocols.
He said, “We cannot afford to let our guard down. Let us continue to wash our hands under running water, maintain social distancing, refrain from shaking hands and hugging, and, most importantly, wear our masks.”
Since the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020, Ghana has recorded a total of 84,023 cases, 77,972 recoveries and 607 deaths.
