A joint task force from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the security agencies including the police and the Army will begin an exercise to decongest the Central Business District (CBD) ahead of the yuletide.

The exercise, which is scheduled to commence today, Wednesday, December 4, 2019 will ease traffic congestion at Adum and some parts of Kejetia. Other areas to be demolished include the Melcom road, Children’s hospital sidewalk and Pampaso pavement.

The KMA Boss, Osei Assibey Antwi made the revelation while addressing journalists after a two-hour inspection at Adum and the CBD.

The Kumasi City council together with the Police and the Army on Tuesday afternoon inspected stalls and shops at the CBD to get first hand information on how traders are incessantly turning the pavements into trading grounds, and how to resolve it.

On his part, the Regional MTTD head and Manhyia Police commander, ACP Kwaku Boa bemoaned the practice of trading on pavement and pedestrian walkways. He, therefore, warned that the police will enforce the laws that debar the traders from engaging themselves in the phenomenon.
