Former President John Dramani Mahama’s name has popped up as the main sponsor of the much talked about #FixTheCountry protest to hit the capital city, Accra on Sunday, May 9th 2021.
In a secret letter addressed to the former president, the organisers of the demo have presented a budget of over GHc480,000.00 to Mr. Mahama to make the protest march successful.
The organisers, Speak Up Ghana, include journalists, celebrities and others who want to hit the streets of Accra to protest what they say is a messed country and are demanding the government to fix it.

Led by one celebrity, Efia Odo, the group started the campaign on social media platforms and later decided to take it to the streets but was stopped by the Greater Accra Police Command because of the of law banning public gathering due to COVID-19.
In the said letter to Mr. Mahama, the group had a discussion with the former President who agreed to sponsor and asked them to submit budgetary estimate to his Cantonments office for the intended May 9th protest.
The group, ‘Speak Up Ghana’ presented a total budget of GHc4,830,000.00, and among other things were “Celebrity” Protestor’ token of GHc700,000.00
Others were GHc400,000 for the Media, GHc500,000 transportation for protestors; Contingent Affairs GHc400,000; GHc700,000 for refreshment, GHc50,000 for Hand Sanitizers.

The organizers are expecting 100,000 people to take part in the protest, though the covid-19 law passed by Parliament does not allow mass public gathering.
What baffles some Ghanaians is that though there is hardship in the country, nobody can blame it on the ruling government because the coronavirus pandemic has forced the world economy to its knee, and even advanced countries are not left out.
Since losing the 2020 elections, Mr. John Mahama has been attacking the ruling government and has not even called to congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo after the Supreme Court declared the latter the winner of the 2020 election as declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Former President Mahama, after the 2020 election, did not accept the verdict of the people and petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the outcome of the election, but his petition was thrown out for lack of proper documental evidence.
