The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the physical attack on its Northern Regional Treasurer, Hajia Shamima Yakubu, by another regional party officer.

The party expressed shock and disappointment by the incident, which resulted in Hajia Yakubu’s hospitalization.

In a statement signed by NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party vowed to take measures to address the matter thoroughly at the next meeting of its Functional Executive Committee, and that it did not approve of unlawful acts of assault and battery.

The party also clarified that none of its national executive members were present at the meeting where the assault took place, contrary to some reports.

The meeting was called to discuss campaign strategy, and had nothing to do with any reconciliation, accounts, or allied matters, according to the statement.

The party expressed its determination to ensure that all its members adhere strictly to the long-cherished practices that have made its internal politics the enviable attraction of millions of Ghanaians, and from which it draws the confidence of being the next government in waiting.
