The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a decisive decision to expel four of its prominent members – Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique – from the party.
The individuals have been found guilty of endorsing a candidate other than the officially elected Presidential Candidate, Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, in clear violation of key constitutional provisions.
The NPP expressed its deep concern over the actions of these individuals and made it clear that such behavior will not be tolerated within the party.
The General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Erimpong, released a statement regarding the matter, reaffirming the party’s commitment to upholding its principles and values.
“The NPP entreats its members to remain true to their duties as per Article 3(5) of the party Constitution.”
“We further call upon our members to bear in mind that the Party’s focus is to unite its ranks and rally the support of Ghanaians to make history by winning the 2024 general elections,” he stated.
The decision is based on specific constitutional clauses, with emphasis on Article 3(5) (A) (4), which obliges members to “abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party.”
Additionally, Article 3(9) (1) outlines that members who endorse or support another political party automatically forfeit their NPP membership.
The party stressed that in spite of their flagrant breach of the NPP Constitution particularly Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the four still hold themselves out as members of the NPP
Justin Kodua reinforced the gravity of the breach, asserting that the four individuals ‘are no longer members of the Party’ and urging other members to focus on the party’s unity and the upcoming 2024 general elections.
