Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirant for the Parliamentary primaries in the Yendi constituency called on the national party to prohibit the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama, from holding himself as the elected Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency.

She raised serious concerns over the conduct of the recent primaries held on January 27, 2024, at the Yendi Senior High School and requested the National Executive Committee address what she describes as chaotic and invalid proceedings.

She stressed that the Electoral Commission of Ghana is the only body mandated to conduct and declare the results of the primaries, as per the Parliamentary Primaries Protocols issued on January 22, 2024, and contested the legitimacy of the declaration made by Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the 3rd Vice Chairman of the NPP, who announced Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama as the winner.

In a ptition to the NPP, Abibata Mahama detailed several critical issues that, according to her, compromised the integrity of the primaries. She alleged substantial irregularities and violations, urging the committee to declare the primaries as null and void.

She demanded sanctions against all those involved in the alleged misconduct, including party officers, government appointees, and Electoral Commission officers.

She also demanded fresh elections, supervised by competent and independent officers.

“Order for fresh elections to be conducted and supervised by competent, independent, and sincere Electoral Commission Officers, Party Officers, and Security Officers.”

“The NPP Parliamentary Primary of the Yendi Constituency held on the 27th of January 2024 was tainted with substantial irregularities, violations, infractions and therefore lost its validity,” she stated.
