The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised state institutions and government officials to dispel with vicious propaganda and concentrate on the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the party, government officials should act in ways that will reinforce rather than undermine the call of President Nana Akufo-Addo that COVID-19 is an existential threat to Ghanaians.

In response to some alleged unsavoury claims from some government officials and institutions, the party stressed the pronouncements are intended to divert the attention of the party Ghanaians.

It has been reported that a senior official at the Electoral Commission has declared if the Commission is unable to compile a new voter’s register, there would be no elections in December this year.

In another media report, the Special Prosecutor is also said to have formally invited a ‘brother’ of former President John Dramani Mahama and some personalities to assist his office in investigating the Airbus scandal.

In a release signed by the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, he noted that these pronouncements and reports are purposely designed to create controversy.

“They are also intended to draw the attention of Ghanaians, which is fixed firmly on the efforts of the government and other stakeholders to take necessary measures to ensure the preservation of lives and welfare,” he said.

He, therefore, called on all its communicators not to be drawn into matters that are irrelevant to the fight to stop the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We value the lives of our fellow citizens and will not spend any time responding to issues that have no bearing whatsoever on the preservation of life.”

“We further call on all party officials and members to intensify public education, within the necessary social distancing and hygienic protocols, so that together, we can sustain our lives and welfare,” he stated.
