President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to maintain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power and prevent former President John Dramani Mahama from returning to office.
He also declared the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as his successor, during a one-day working visit to the Upper West region.
As part of his visit, President Akufo-Addo commissioned a new 15 MW solar power plant in Kaleo. While speaking to Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the paramount chief of the Waala traditional area, and the gathered community, he expressed his gratitude for the support during his administration.
He also outlined his intention to visit again before the elections to bid farewell formally.
“Before the election is held, I am going to come here and say my proper goodbye to you and thank you for the cooperation that I received from you when I was president,” he said.
“God willing, when I come, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor.”
Expressing his determination, the President stated, “Wa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor, and as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying.”
President Akufo-Addo reassured the people of Wa and the broader Ghanaian community of his commitment to preserving peace and stability during the upcoming December elections, maintaining Ghana’s position as a beacon of democratic governance in Africa.
“Our country is known as the pacesetter for democratic government across the entire continent of Africa. I want to assure you that this year we are going to maintain that reputation. But I need your support and cooperation,” he added.
The visit not only reinforced the President’s political objectives but also served to strengthen ties with traditional leaders and communities in the Upper West region.
