He pleaded with Ghanaians to desist from cutting trees from the country’s forest without permit from the forestry commission.

Barimah Essah Kwasi Mensah Bediako III said activities of some scrupulous people have led to the degradation of the country’s forest reserve which has affected the climate change in certain part of the country.

He commended President Akuffo-Addo and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Samuel Jinapor for this initiative of planting five million tress on Friday.

He said, “Let’s all plant hope by planting a tree today, and as the old saying goes, when the last tree dies, the last man dies.”

The Green Ghana initiative is being led by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

Five million trees were expected to be planted across the country on Friday, and this initiative has become an annual event, hoping to help restore Ghana’s ecosystem which is deteriorating due to unathorised cutting of trees from our forests and illegal miners, popularly called galamsay.

Barimah Essah Kwasi Mensah Bediako III was joined by the Municipal Chief Executive of the West Akyem Municipal Assembly, Hon. Seth Boadu, officials from the Assembly, Chiefs, Politicians, School Children, the Clergy and a section of the general public from the Municipality.
