Footsoldiers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have launched a hunt for the Chief Executive of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Ken Attafuah, to wring an apology out of him for what they described as very disrespectful comments.

The group argued after riding on their toil, sweat and blood to reach the high seat of CEO at the Authority, he is shading those whose efforts got him to that position.

A statement issued by the Alliance for Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) expressed shock at pronouncements reportedly made by Professor Attafuah to the effect that he has been directed not to recruit members and sympathizers of the NPP.

He was reported to have made the statement on Kumasi-based Angel Fm on 7th June 2021 where he asserted the NIA wants to enhance political neutrality and has therefore been charged not to hire NPP foot soldiers.

AFFA argued that this brazen posture by Prof. Attafuah is a recipe for party disintegration.

“An erroneous impression is being created by the Professor as though NPP people are illiterates who cannot put pen to paper or man a computer.”

“For Christ’s sake, NPP foot soldiers are knowledgeable individuals with the requisite academic credentials and technical know-how in their field of study who when given the opportunity can perform to satisfaction,” the statement said.

The Foot soldiers argued the party people that Prof. Attafuah is scornfully sidelining in the NIA recruitment are the very people who worked tirelessly in opposition for him to enjoy the fruits of office.

They said, “He should remember that it is not his law certificate or PhD credentials cum curriculum vitae (CV) that secured him the Chief Executive Officer position he is occupying today. He is in the office on the instance of the NPP.”

The group averred that the NIA boss was sacked by the NDC in 2009 when the NPP under President J.A. Kufuor exited office and stressed he would have been ‘unemployed’ if not for the kind courtesy of President Nana Akufo-Addo who reappointed him to the NIA.

AFFA demanded an immediate retraction of the statement and an unqualified apology and called on the party leadership to take an interest in the matter and guard against future occurrence.
