Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been advised not to be an NPP minister when confirmed by Parliament.

She has been charged to out and be a Ghana’s minister for women, children and social protection.

Member of Parliament for Techiman North Constituency, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, gave the advice when the Dome-Kwabenya MP took her turn at the Appointments Committee on Wednesday to be vetted.

According to Hon. Ofosu Agyare, statistics from research conducted by the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs indicates that women parliamentarians have proven to be very effective and efficient.

This, she said, is because women legislators have demonstrated the capacity to come together regardless of the political parties they belong to ensure that the welfare of women and children are taken care of.

She urged the Minister-designate to work to ensure issues of LEAP expansion, affirmative action and issues affecting women and children are dealt with expeditiously when confirmed.

“Go out there and make women proud but don’t be Minister for NPP women.”

“Go there and be Ghana’s Minister for women and children, and for gender and social protection,” she stated.

Hon. Adwoa took the advice in good faith and pledged to do her best to ensure the plight of women and children are improved while she heads the Ministry.
