Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the elected Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma West, has pledged to retain the seat for the NPP in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
She was re-elected as Parliamentary Candidate of the Party in a landslide victory on Saturday, January 27, 2024, with 817 votes, while her contender, Mr Robert Kwesi Nicole, polled 241 votes.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful will once again compete against Reverend Kweku Addo, who was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, in the national polls.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful has won the seat three times since its creation in 2012, after being carved out of the then Ablekuma South Constituency.
However, in 2020, her vote margin reduced significantly from over 13,400 in 2016 to a little over 6,500 votes.
Speaking in an interview with the media after her re-election, MrsOwusu-Ekuful insisted that she was unperturbed by that, stressing that, she remained confident of retaining the seat in December.
She said: “We are retaining this seat and we will do whatever it takes to do that. Somebody has been to parliament with three votes, so the important thing is that we are winning and we are retaining this seat and we are winning more votes for our presidential candidate, DrMahamuduBawumia, to break the eight.
“That, for me is our focus.NDC is not my focus. I’ve beaten them three times, I will beat them again.”
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful called on her opponent to join forces with her to ensure the Party retained the seat come December 2024.
“The contest is over; the delegates have spoken. It is time for us to join forces to do the work of the NPP in this constituency. So, I am welcoming him to join us to forge ahead in unity and retain this seat for the NPP,” she added.
Mr Richard Ahiagba, Director of Communications of the NPP, urged the two aspirants to work together and ensure victory for the Party.
